Department of Functional Anatomy of Livestock

Knowledge in functional anatomy enables to understand the anatomical structures of the body and their physiological functions. We are studying regulatory metabolic processes such as growth and development of calves, turkeys and broilers, egg laying of hens and milk production in dairy cows. The modern, genetically high-yielding farm animal is prone to suffer from production diseases. Our research aims to unterstand how high metabolic performance can be obtained while health of the animals is maintained. Therefore, we examine the structure of organs and tissues and assess their functions by molecular biological, biochemical and histological methods. Integrative data analyses were performed by bioinformatic approaches. Department's profile
